ABSTRACT

A field experiment was conducted under Inceptisol during Kharif season, 2021 at agricultural farm,
School of Agricultural sciences, G.H. Raisoni University, Saikheda, [M.P]. The experiment was
carried out in Randomized Block Design with eight treatments each replicated thrice on the basis
of one year experimentation. The treatments which are T1: 1kg/ha of Pendimethalin, T2: 1.5kg/ha
of Alachlor, T3: 50g/ha of Quizalofop-p-ethyl, T4: 1kg/ha of pendimethalin plus 30 DAS of once
hand weeding, T5: 1.5kg/ha of Alachlor plus 30 DAS of once hand weeding, T6:50g/ha of
Quizalofop-p-ethyl plus 30 DAS of once hand weeding, T7: At 20 and 40 DAS of twice hand weeding,
T8: Weedy check used. Black gram variety "TAU-1" was used as a test crop.

Along with this, T4: 1kg/ha of pendimethalin plus 30 DAS of once hand weeding have significantly effect
and T7: At 20 and 40 DAS of twice hand weeding closely proved to be next superior treatment strategy in
improving growth and yield attributing characters including plant heights, number of branches per plant,
dry matter accumulation, number of nodules per plant, pods per plant, seeds per pod and seed test weight
of black gram over rest of the treatments.

Obtained results were further indicated that the maximum seed, straw and biological yields [1223.36,
2857.33 and 4080.43] with harvest index of 29.98 percent were obtained with T4: 1kg/ha of pendimethalin
plus 30 DAS of once hand weeding. Producing 86.40, 81.47 and 82.93 percent increment in seed, straw and
biological yields over T8: Weedy check and attaining the highest index of 31.58 percent, and noted that T7:
At 20 and 40 DAS of twice hand weeding was also found equally effective treatment.

It was further noted in the present study that pre-emergence application of T4: 1kg/ha of pendimethalin
plus 30 DAS of once hand weeding were found statistically equivalent and significantly superior treatments
in enhancing the net returns of Rs 52720.93/ha and highest B:C ratio of 2.23, T4: 1kg/ha of pendimethalin
plus 30 DAS of once hand weeding was found the most effective and lucrative treatment.

However, the study results showed statistical equivalence with T7: At 20 and 40 DAS of twice hand weeding
also recorded the net returns of Rs 50797.31/ha and B:C ratio of 2.17, respectively. Despite of this,T5: 1.5kg/ha
of Alachlor plus 30 DAS of once hand weeding and T6: 50g/ha of Quizalofop-p-ethyl plus 30 DAS of once hand
weeding are observed to be the next effective and better treatments in order to improve the net returns per rupee
investment. These treatments recorded the B:C ratio to 1.67 and 1.58 than T8: Weedy check treatment.

It was noted further in this study that T5: 1.5kg/ha of Alachlor plus 30 DAS of once hand weeding and T6:
50g/ha of Quizalofop-p-ethyl plus 30 DAS of once hand weeding are also raised the net returns by magnitude of
Rs 20539.98 and 17989.08 over T8: Weedy check treatment.
